Several states have implemented minimum wage changes that were announced late in November, 2012, and will take effect on January 1, 2013. As employers prepare to complete their first payroll in 2013, it is important that they understand these changes. Florida has announced an hourly minimum wage increase. Effective January 1, 2013, Florida’s minimum wage will increase to $7.79 for non-tipped employees and $4.77 for tipped employees.
To confirm any future and/or additional changes, and for more information regarding maximum tip credit and training/youth wage rates, where applicable, visit the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity. For more information, you may also visit this link.
Several other states have also announced hourly minimum wage increases. For more information, visit each state’s website, or visit the United States Department of Labor website.
It is important to become aware of these changes in advance so employers can adjust their payroll accordingly, and change employees’ hourly rates to meet the new state minimum wage, as necessary.
